CPCI Solution for Telecom Value-added Services (Color Ring Back Tone)

System Introduction

Nowadays, when you dial a phone number you might hear interesting songs, personalized monologues or even jokes and crosstalk, replacing the ordinary "du...du..." sound. This is a new service called CRBT, or color ring back tone. It is the sound you hear via the phone receiver when you ring someone. Customized ring back tone service is a kind of new value-added services provided by telecom operators to boost market share in the highly competitive telecom market. The "color ring back tone" was first popular in East Asian countries like Japan, Korea and China, now school kids and young white collar workers around the world have caught up with the trend.  With the increasing popularity of the "color ring back tone" among the young, CRBT has become a service with a very promising future.

System Principle

The CRBT service platform consists of high-performance host computers, data servers, operation management systems and so on. The system delivers user-friendly interfaces, a variety of parameter setup combination, centralized operation, maintenance and monitoring. It features excellent security, easy expandability and high reliability.

The working principle is as follows:
1) The caller dials the number and the call is transferred to the local exchange for the called party.
2) The switch at the local exchange turns CRBT subscribers over to the CRBT platform.
3) The CRBT platform derives the personalized ring tone from the analysis of the numbers of the called party and the caller, as well as time slots.
4) The CRBT platform makes signals and starts to connect the called party, and meanwhile sends the personalized ring tone to the caller.
5) When the called party answers the phone, the CRBT platform stops playing the ring tone and connects the two parties. The signaling process is over.
Structure


The CRBT platform adopts a three-layer structure, which includes an interface layer, an application layer and a data layer. The interface layer is the service interface between the CRBT system and subscribers. On this layer, the CRBT server is linked to network gateway with E1 digital trunk lines. A certain signaling is used to make calls and do the connecting, delivering the CRBT service. The application layer serves as the interface for fee calculation system, operation support system and other operation support-related systems. The data layer delivers CRBT data management and storage. There, database servers store users’ information and system data etc, and management terminals are responsible for the overall administration and monitoring.

System Configuration

The CRBT connecting platform delivers personalized ring back tone to replace the standard one by exchanges. Its audio system adopts CTI technology, which uses CPCI industrial standard audio boards for audio playing. The connectors of audio platforms and exchanges adopts TUP or ISUP mode, connected to the operation center via the standard TCP/IP protocol.

The CRBT connecting platform stores the personalized audio fragments of subscribers, and the application servers modify and manage the audio fragments in accordance with the needs of subscribers and content providers. The audio fragments are archived in compact form.
The hardware of CRBT platform adopts the EVOC CPCI chassis and CPCI boards to construct the connecting platform. The configuration is as follows:

 CPC-8402 4U chassis, power panel, CPC-1813CV6N motherboard (Intel® Core ™Duo LV duo-core processor/Intel®3100 chip/onboard 1G DDR2-400 RECC memory/1 x IDE port/2 x SATA port/ 6 x GB network card port)
 Several E1 boards
 Several DSP-ONE boards for audio resource processing
 Several SS7 signaling cards, supporting some signaling (TUP/ISUP/SCCP/TCAP)
